How are business models capturing flexibility in the district energy grid?
In a systematic study of scientific literature dealing with flexibility in the district energy sector, the authors highlight that most district heating grids are slow to recognize and capture flexibility from end-users, thermal inertia, heat pumps and other. However, when including flexibility incentives in price models a win-win can be established for the district heating providers and heat customers.
The study was done as part of Flexi-Sync by representatives from RISE, Utilifeed and IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. The study was presented at the 17th International Symposium on District Heating and Cooling (DHC), 6–9 September 2021 in Nottingham, United Kingdom.
